Director of Open Government, Niquelle M. Allen

Director Niquelle M. Allen, Esq.  is an experienced government attorney and executive with a reputation for good governance and finding innovative solutions to complex issues. She was named by the District of Columbia Board of Ethics and Government Accountability on July 9, 2018 to serve as the Director of Open Government. Director Allen is an advocate for transparency in government and is respected and dynamic public speaker and presenter. Director Allen has solidified the Office of Open Government's position as a strong resource for information and guidance on open government issues.

Prior to her appointment as Director of Open Government, Director Allen served as Senior Policy Advisor and Counsel for the District of Columbia Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO). At OCTO she was instrumental in the implementation of the District of Columbia's Open Data policies. Prior to her tenure at OCTO, Director Allen served with distinction as an Assistant Attorney General in the District of Columbia Office of the Attorney General. Prior to her service with the government, Director Allen practiced law in the private sector in the areas of civil litigation, telecommunications, and media law. 

Director Allen earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her law degree from North Carolina Central University. She is a member of the District of Columbia Bar and the North Carolina Bar, and she is a resident of Ward 5.
