Details:

The Child Fatality Review Committee (CFRC) is a multidisciplinary team of District residents, community based providers, child advocates, physicians and government leaders who convene monthly to conduct retrospective reviews of child fatalities.  The mission of the CFRC is to reduce the number of preventable child fatalities in the District of Columbia through identifying, evaluating and improving programs and systems responsible for protecting and serving the District's children and their families. The CFRC is constructed of two teams - the Infant Mortality Review Team and the Child Fatality Review Team.  The Infant Mortality Review Team (IMR) discusses the fatalities of infants through 12 months of age.  The Child Fatality Review Team (CFR) reviews the fatalities of children ages 1 through 18.  The fatalities of older youth are examined if they were involved with the District's child welfare or juvenile justice agencies.   The case review meetings of the Child Fatality Review Committee are closed to the public pursuant to D.C.. Official Code §2-575(b)(1) as the law or court order requires that a particular matter or proceeding not be public; and 2-575(b)(10) to discuss personnel matters, and 2-575(b)(14) to plan, discuss, or hear reports concerning ongoing or planned investigations of alleged criminal or civil misconduct or violations of law or regulations, if disclosure to the public would harm the investigation.”
