BEGA Releases Quarterly Complaint Summary Report for FY2026 Quarter 4

The District of Columbia Board of Ethics and Government Accountability (“BEGA”) released its Quarterly Complaint Summary Report for the fourth quarter of FY 2026, covering the period from July 1, 2026, to September 30, 2026.

During FY2026 Q4, the Office of Government Ethics (“OGE”), an office within BEGA that investigates alleged violations of the District’s Code of Conduct by employees and public officials, closed 82 matters.  More than half the matters (43 out of 82 matters or 52.44%) involved allegations that were outside of BEGA’s jurisdiction.

For the 39 closed matters within BEGA’s jurisdiction, allegations involving rules governing outside employment or activities and conflict of interest each accounted for six matters (15.38%), while use of public office for private gain and misuse of government resources each accounted for five matters (12.82%), and alleged violations of the prohibitions on nepotism and political activity each accounted for four matters (10.26%). There were three matters (7.69%) involving alleged violations of the rules governing gifts and donations, and two matters each (5.13%) stemming from allegations that employees violated the post-employment rules or engaged in preferential treatment. The remaining allegations involved failure to adhere to federal, state, and local laws and violations of the financial disclosure reporting requirements.
