BEGA Releases Third Quarter Report

The Board of Ethics and Government Accountability (BEGA) has posted its third quarter report[pdf] of ongoing investigations for fiscal year 2013. Required by the Ethics Act, the quarterly report lists all the BEGA investigations, including a description of the allegations, status of the investigation and any resulting dispositions. For FY 2013 to date, the BEGA  has initiated 41 investigations with a more than 50 percent closure rate. A total of 24 investigations have been closed with two Informal Nonpublic Admonitions and two Public Negotiated Disposition Agreements – much like plea agreements. The BEGA recently issued two Notices of Violations (the document used to formally charge an individual) which are likely to result in open and adversarial evidentiary hearings in the near future. Names of government officials/employees who are respondents in the investigations are included in the report only where the investigation has been made public by members of the BEGA.
