The District of Columbia Board of Ethics and Government Accountability (“BEGA”) announced today that it has selected Darrin Sobin to serve as the Director of Government Ethics. The Director position was established by the Board of Ethics and Government Accountability Establishment and Comprehensive Ethics Reform Emergency Amendment Act of 2012. The Director is responsible for assisting BEGA in administering the Code of Conduct applicable to all District government employees; receiving, investigating and adjudicating violations of the Code of Conduct; training District employees on ethics standards; issuing rules and regulations governing District employees and public officials; administering the financial disclosure and lobbyist registration systems; and providing formal and informal ethics advice. The Director serves at the pleasure of the Board.
Mr. Sobin is an Assistant Attorney General with the Legal Counsel Division of the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia where he has served for the past nine years. In April, 2012 he was appointed by the Attorney General as the Government Ethics Counselor for the District government. Prior to joining the Office of the Attorney General, Mr. Sobin served as a law clerk to the Honorable June L. Green of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia and with the Office of Bar Counsel. He also worked in private practice. Mr. Sobin attended George Washington University and District of Columbia (now known as the David A. Clarke) School of Law.
